Carol Sperry Johnson
Carol Sperry Johnson, MM, MT has more than 20 years of experience in teaching music. She acquired her master’s degree in performance from Juilliard and she has a BA in Music Therapy from Florida State University. Carol experienced teaching in the school system with both music and autism. She has studied and taught in Europe and is fluent in German, Danish, and English.
Carol grew up on Original Carrollwood. She was born into a musical family. Her father, Dr. Gale Sperry was the Chairman of the Music Dept at the University of South Florida in Tampa, during her childhood and young adult years. Her mother, Virginia Sperry, was both a choir director and pianist. Carol began studying piano with her mother, at the age of 5. When she was 10, her father brought home several different instruments, including, drum mallots, a flute, and a clarinet. She chose clarinet. Not only did she become principal clarinetist in orchestras and bands locally, but she was awarded first chair clarinet in the AllState Band, in the state of Florida, 5 years in a row, while both in junior high and high school.
Carol loves teaching music and she loves children. She has a lifelong experience and passion for performing and teaching. Carol has great interpersonal skills and communicates effectively with her students. She also has a fun and rewarding ability to understand each, individual personality complexities, while tailoring each student’s needs in acquiring successful learning. She believes in positive reinforcement which promotes tremendous, positive self-esteem in students.

Ms. Sperry has given workshops at local schools in Tampa, LA, and in EUROPE. She has performed with and has been a member of orchestras in FL, NYC, LA, GERMANY, Copenhagen, DENMARK, and SWEDEN. Her favorite medium for performing is with Opera Orchestras and in Chamber Music Ensembles.

- NAMC Music Festival – students have won Superior Ratings in both Piano and Music Theory.
- JFMM monthly recitals in Hyde Park on a Steinway Grand- many students have won contests over the years
- TAMPA BAY YOUTH ORCHESTRA; has had students audition successfully, and achieve membership in the TBYO, which performs at the Strazz Center in downtown Tampa.
- FBA & FOA Solo/Ensemble clarinet winners of Superior Ratings at both the District, and the State Level of Competition in MENC
